What SMC actually means

Smart Money Concepts (SMC) is the modern, simplified evolution of Wyckoff and ICT. The core idea: price moves because big money needs liquidity. Every chart you look at is a battlefield between trapped retail traders and institutional algorithms collecting their stops.

The 4 SMC building blocks

1. Liquidity

Pools of stop-loss orders sitting above recent highs or below recent lows. Smart money sweeps these to fill its own orders.

2. Order Blocks (OB)

The last opposite-colored candle before a strong displacement. A bullish OB is the last bearish candle before an aggressive rally. Price often returns to mitigate it.

3. Fair Value Gaps (FVG)

A 3-candle imbalance where wicks don''t overlap. The middle candle leaves an inefficient zone the market wants to fill.

4. Break of Structure (BOS) & Change of Character (CHoCH)

BOS = trend continuation. CHoCH = trend reversal. Both are confirmation tools, not entry tools.

1. Mark HTF liquidity (4H highs/lows).
2. Wait for price to sweep that liquidity.
3. Drop to LTF (15M) and wait for CHoCH.
4. Enter on the return to an OB or FVG inside the CHoCH range.
5. Target the opposing liquidity.
