Why a checklist beats intuition
The difference between a 40% win-rate trader and a 65% win-rate trader is rarely the strategy. It''s selectivity. Institutions don''t take 20 trades a day; they wait for setups that hit every box. This is that checklist.
The 8-point A+ checklist
1. HTF bias is clear
On the 4H, structure must be clearly bullish (HH/HL) or bearish (LH/LL). If it''s sideways, skip.
2. Liquidity has been swept
A recent swing high or low must have been raided. No sweep = no smart-money fingerprint.
3. Premium/discount alignment
Selling in premium (above the 50% of the dealing range), buying in discount. Trading from the wrong side of equilibrium is a coin flip.
4. LTF CHoCH confirms reversal
On the 15M or 5M, a change of character against the prior LTF trend must be visible.
5. Entry into FVG or OB
Entry must be located inside a confluence zone — a 15M OB, FVG, or 1H breaker. No naked entries.
6. Risk-reward minimum 1:3
The first target (nearest liquidity) must be at least 3x the stop distance. If not, the setup isn''t worth taking.
7. Killzone alignment
Entry triggers during London (07:00–10:00 UTC), NY AM (12:30–15:00 UTC), or NY PM reversal (18:00–20:00 UTC). Outside these windows, skip.
8. Macro filter green
For gold: DXY direction and US10Y direction must not contradict the trade. Bullish gold with rising DXY + rising yields = red flag.
How to score
- All 8 = A+ setup, full size, take with confidence.
- 6–7 = A setup, reduced size.
- 5 or fewer = skip.
Most professional traders take 1–3 A+ setups per week on gold. Quality over quantity.
What this changes
When you commit to a checklist, you cut out:
- FOMO entries.
- Revenge trades.
- Boredom trades.
- Counter-trend gambles.
Win rate climbs. Drawdowns shrink. Account survives.
